Mongolian Khan Out Of Cup
G1 Australian Derby and G1 Caulfield Cup winner Mongolian Khan (Aus) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}) has been removed from consideration for the Nov. 3 G1 Melbourne Cup after suffering a bout of colic, according to Racing.com. The 4-year-old was reportedly treated by veterinarians at the Werribee training center Thursday. The dark bay was the third choice for the A$6 million handicap, and his defection allows trainer Robert Hickmott’s import The United States (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) into the field as number 24 in the order of entry. That 5-year-old could yet be bumped from the lineup, however, with Saturday’s G2 Lexus S. winner getting automatic entry into the Melbourne Cup.
